The Historical List of Races and Matches of 1754 reported a meeting taking place in Northumberland at Newbig-Link, which could well have been the sands at Newbiggin. The meeting was held on Monday 6th May 1754 with the main race a Sweepstakes over 4 miles. There was a competitive field of 6 runners and the finish concerned a Filly owned by Mr Wilson and a bay colt owned by Mr Samuel Cook. While there is no further mention of Newbig-Link, Newbiggin races were popular throughout the 19th century.
